Indeed because phytoplankton feeds on acids delivered by waste of trees. Decades ago, Katsuhiko Matsunaga, a marine chemist at Hokkaido University in Japan, discovered that when tree leaves decompose, they leach acids into the ocean that help fertilize plankton.

But far more important is the role phytoplankton plays in Earths oceans by it’s uptake of CO2 and by its Oxygen delivering capacity (as large a from all forests on earth). The chain from trees to phytoplankton, which functioned hundreds of millions of years is broken now by deforestation, which cuts down an important source of nutrition for phytoplankton. Also the warming of the oceans threatens phytoplankton which loves cooler waters to multiply. Therefore we need rapid cooling of Earths’ atmosphere to cool-down Earths’ Atmosphere and directly related  Sea-Surface Temperatures.
